This was a great look at everything from 1996 on! I would also argue that the animosity went back further; at the trade deadline in 1993 the Mariners had a deal in place to trade him to the Blue Jays. When the Blue Jays GM, Pat Gillick called to accept the story goes that the Mariners GM, Woody Woodward, was out golfing in Florida in the days before cell phone. So the trade didn't go through and he stayed in Seattle. And there were several years with spring training newspaper stories about Randy being on the trading block, so he was never really secure in his spot here.
I’m of the opinion that the 97 Mariners are their best team ever. Four HOF players: Randy, Griffey, Edgar, and ARod. Two others (Buhner and Moyer) are all time franchise greats. Great article
Crazy anecdote I found reading all these old clips: the 1997 club was so good and so enthralling that they reached the 6th-most tickets sold in franchise history (at the time)…before playing a game. Almost two million.
I tuned into the game broadcast just in time to hear Randy throwing shade on Howard Lincoln. Priceless--especially the look on Angie's face.

As a biased person, who considers Randy Johnson to be their all-time favorite baseball player, this will always be my favorite U.S.S. Mariner article: http://www.ussmariner.com/2007/01/15/refuting-the-randy-johnson-quit-on-us-canard/
Great read - “Same as it ever was”
Indeed
I’ve been a Mariners fan since day one
Stopped trying to figure out where they’re coming from long ago…
