Great season!!!! At the end of the day, only one team isn’t horribly unhappy. Now we’ll see if ownership will do what it takes to add talent and cut ties with aging, though popular, players on the downhill slide of their careers. Go M’s!!!!!
There’s really no excuse now for them not to run a $200m payroll. Those playoff tickets weren’t cheap. Gotta bring back Naylor and continue to supplement an elite young core with the right bats.
What about the manager? We all know he made some very poor calls all season long, game 7 notwithstanding. One day he may channel Walter Alston, but can the M’a afford to be a training ground? Your blog is fab, by the way …
I hope this is the beginning of a Jordan/Bulls run, rather than a Marino/Dolphins run.
I don’t think that good players are enough. I think they have to be the RIGHT good players, who can work together, and prepare in the right way, combined in an organization that puts people in the best place to succeed. Everyone who has made it to this level is good. Sometimes that is not enough. I was looking at the faces of the players in the dugout watching the BJ’s celebrate, and hearing Cal call the season a “failure” made me ache, and it was heartening to hear him say that. Maybe this will be the end of “SAME OLD MARINERS,” maybe not. All I know is I hope it’s the beginning of a winning era.
They’re in good hands with players like Cal. It’s just, you sometimes don’t know if guys are the right guys until they’re in the building—so you gotta get more than enough.
And, right there with you on the football comp. I’m a diehard Packers fan. We saw them win it in 2010 after coming up short in 2009 with a team that had a real shot. They went 15-1 in 2011 and we thought they’d be going to Super Bowl after Super Bowl after Super Bowl. Rodgers won his MVPs and they even got some #1 seeds. Never got back.
Look at the Phillies. You just never know. Have to keep pressing.
Yep. An awful lot. We’ll be doing it for a while, I think.
And yeah, that’s the big thing—Dan’s not going anywhere, so he’s gotta learn. When you’re there, you gotta go for it. Because you don’t know when you’ll be there again.
Obviously, not the way any of us wanted it to end. It was still a great season though (one of my favorite seasons ever as a 43-year old).... Maybe they'll get there next year.

Great summation, Colin.

A lot of “what if…” going around this morning
What an AWESOME season. It was great to finally have meaningful October conversations
Dan and company learned a lot and will take that experience to the next level
Thanx Mariners!!

Thanks for reading and Go M’s.
Appreciate your M’s perspectives Colin
As always, thank you for reading. Let’s get ‘em next year.

Go Mariners!
Best season in Mariners history, I think. Just sad we’ll never have the 2025 Mariners again.
Thanks for reading and following along with me. Go M’s.
